WHAT WE WANT: The Alita Army wants to fly a banner that reads “#GiveAlitaHerSequel #AlitaArmy” over the parking lot of SoFi Stadium before the 2022 Super Bowl on February 13. We hope that this event will help us to make the Disney executives aware of the interest and desire that exists for an Alita: Battle Angel film sequel. We have been successful in 2020 with reaching the film makers this way and they have responded by thanking us and encouraging us to continue campaigning for a sequel. Two years later, we know that important talks at the studio for a sequel will begin again and we want to give the director Robert Rodriguez a boost through this banner event.
WHAT WE REQUIRE: The cost of a four hour flight above the stadium parking lot will be $3,200 and our first deadline is January 26. Once we have that, we will pay the pilot. The fundraiser will continue to take donations until February 13. This is for a few reasons: First, whenever campaigns get funded quickly, many people regret not being in-time to contribute to the cause. By continuing to take donations, everyone can feel like they contributed. Second, as with our past campaigns, the additional donations can be used to help someone in need. That’s where one of our past campaigns comes into play again. In 2020, when we flew our first banner, we donated the extra money we raised to Open Bionics (a prosthetic arm developer) in order so that a young person in need of a “Hero Arm” could receive one. While the funds we raised went a long way to making it possible, the unfortunate thing is that there are still hurdles for the patient that Open Bionics selected to overcome. There are expenses for clinic visits, of course. And because the patient is a child, they will require refits as they grow which makes a more costly package more suitable for them. They’re looking at an additional $9,441 in needed funding; we would like to fund as much of that as we possibly can by February 13 when we plan to end the fundraiser.
WHO WE ARE: The Alita Army is a community of Alita: Battle Angel fans who are dedicated to campaigning for a sequel to the 2019 film. We believe that supporting the film and promoting it positively is the best method of helping more people to discover Alita and convincing Disney to green-light a sequel.
