Cinemablend: Why Now Would Be A Great Time For The Alita Sequel To Get Picked Up By Another Studio

Mike Reyes of Cinemablend tells us why he believes that not only is this the best time for Alita to go to another film studio but there is reason to hope that it could happen.

Paramount’s recent acquisition of Spamalot, after the fully-developed picture languished on the Disney lot, shows that both parties might be amenable to future deals. But Paramount adding pieces of the Fox apparatus one by one feels like the reunion of former co-workers, which could make for promising developments in the world of Alita: Battle Angel if the fans are loud enough.”

I'm one of many Alita: Battle Angel fans that make up the Alita Army. We began this campaign for a sequel in spring 2019 and we hope to be here to support this beloved character Alita for many years to come.

  1. Hrmmm… Dunno.
Quote, “Paramount [‘s…] reunion of former co-workers […] could make for promising developments in the world of Alita: Battle Angel if the fans are loud enough.”

Disney doesn’t seem to be interested in handing it over. Maybe they discuss a prequels show on D+ but neither this is confirmed. The only reason they’d consider handing it over would be making a quick buck. Financially this makes sense since 2020 was a disaster. But such a move would contradict nurturing ABA on D+.

COVID-19 stirs up things even more. 2020 was a year out of the ordinary, but 2021 will be even worse (number wise). If we get a third wave, 2022 could be very well affected, too. Ppl won’t go to the movies until this is over. Meanwhile it’s all heading towards streaming services.

Maybe Paramount would be best suited (regading ppl and mindset). But Disney has D+. (Don’t know if Paramount has something like this, but this is beside the point.) In the end it all comes down to money in Disney’s book. If spreadsheet calcs show green numbers it will get a go. Since movies don’t pay off these days, streaming is the better option at least during 2021-2023(?).
