Hulu Rumored To Be Combined With Disney+

It’s been rumored since May that Disney was strongly considering an Alita prequel series for Disney+ but it was hard for many people to see how Alita: Battle Angel would be a fit for the “family friendly” brand. Recently, a number of people claimed to have insider knowledge of the prequel series being a reality – Grace Randolph being one of them – further begging the question of how Disney was going to make this work.

Disney’s plan for an additional brand to be the home for more mature content was apparently leaked in a video that showed what might’ve been a presentation prepared for investors. “Disney 18+” was the brand name in the leaked video seen below:

You didn’t have to be a genius to guess why that name would be probably end up being changed. It was much more likely that Disney would take a platform for mature content that it already owned (Hulu) and rebrand it as a part of Disney+. And that is what is now being rumored to be the course of action.

According to Collider.com:

“The working theory is that there’s strength in numbers, and The Walt Disney Company would look much more appealing to Wall Street investors if it could boast of having 110 million subscribers on a single service, rather than 73.7 million on Disney+ and 36.6 million on Hulu. It simply makes more sense to combine the two streaming services into one single juggernaut that appeals to both families and adults.”

A Hulu spokesperson is denying the truth to the rumors, of course. But this move makes too much sense for Disney to not go through with. You can read more at Collider here: https://collider.com/will-hulu-be-folded-into-disney-plus/

Grace Randolph Claims There Is ‘Genuine Chatter’ At Disney For An Alita Sequel Or Series

This isn’t the first time that we have heard rumors of an Alita sequel or a series being in the works. We Got This Covered reported back in May that they had been informed by their sources that an Alita sequel was being discussed at Disney. We typically don’t share rumors but we saw that their source had been right twice before, so it was worth it to report it AS A RUMOR.

The day after We Got This Covered first published the rumor, they followed up with a rumor of an Alita prequel series being in the works, regardless of if they made a theatrical sequel to the film or not:

“…even if they don’t decide to move forward with a second installment in the big screen franchise, they’re planning to do a prequel series for the streaming service. According to our intel, one idea under consideration is a show that takes place long before the events of the movie, when the title heroine was a front-line soldier in the war known as The Fall, which was briefly glimpsed during flashback sequences.”

If – and it’s a big if – the rumor is true, then Alita is likely going to get a big spotlight on Disney+ as a series. Knowing James Cameron and the way he likes to make film a spectacle, if there is going to be a sequel, it likely will be on the big screen. So what good does a series do, you might be asking? And why should you be excited about that?

With the current state of theaters, it could be a very long time before we ever see an Alita sequel. How would you keep Alita from falling into obscurity during that period? A television series is the answer. Not only would a series be a good way to keep Alita in people’s minds but it will attract more people to the IP. And let’s not forget the merchandise that can be sold. Disney is in a very needy spot financially so this is a no-brainer. It may be that our campaign has given Disney faith in Alita’s marketability.

We will have to wait and see if there is truth to the latest rumor from Grace Randolph. As we originally noted when we reported the rumor back in May: these rumors can take about 8 to 9 months at least before they are confirmed true. So until we get confirmation, it’s business as usual for us.

Props To This Alita Army Warrior For Renting A Billboard For Alita

@avoN_CPlay surprised us with images of a billboard that he bought for Alita: Battle Angel in Germany. That’s pretty awesome stuff right there!

At first he pretended to have nothing to do with it but once we noticed the #AlitaArmy and #AlitaSequel hashtags at the bottom of the image, it became obvious that he was responsible for it.

And he confessed below:

Thanks for the great work, Avon. Keep it up, Alita Army.

#ReReleaseAlita & #GoWatchAlita Campaigns Wrap-up

AMAZING! At the beginning of the year, we could only hope that we would see Alita back in theaters again. Our early attempts to float the idea out there in the first couple of months were dead on arrival. But eventually, a few individuals took the bull by the horns and kickstarted the campaign to get Alita: Battle Angel re-released into theaters.

Cinemark Theaters was the first to respond to our campaign and many others followed. The highlight was seeing James Cameron himself not only announce the film re-release but state that the “#AlitaArmy” had his support.

To promote the re-release of Alita: Battle Angel, we rented a billboard and launched advertisements on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

There’s no doubt that we’ve made an impact. The estimated weekend box office for Alita: Battle Angel as of 11/1/2020 is about $128,000, according to The Numbers. That’s $128,000 that Alita would not have had without a re-release. But for sure our advertising, word of mouth, and diligent promotion has led to many ticket sales. The film producers aren’t expecting a million dollars at a time like this – with the pandemic and limited release of the film at discounted ticket prices – so we should be proud of what we have achieved so far. We, the Alita Army, have done our job and then some.

Enjoy watching Alita in theaters again! And let’s keep up the great work!
